Background
BuildWitt Training is a construction-focused LMS that boosts workforce safety and efficiency. Before the redesign, content lived on three separate pages, hiding key lessons and slowing admins who needed to push critical training to field crews.
The Goal
Create one intuitive, visually engaging library that makes discovering and assigning content fast for admins and effortless for learners.
Research and Insights
To gain deeper insights into user pain points and requirements, I conducted interviews and usability tests with administrators and user who regularly interacted with the BuildWitt Content. These interactions revealed frustrations with content discoverability, navigating multiple pages, and the desire for a more intuitive and streamlined browsing experience.
Hidden Content
Users struggle to find specific content due to the lack of a centralized and organized library.
Navigation Frustration
Users find navigating across multiple pages cumbersome and seek a more streamlined experience.
Visual Appeal
Users want a visually engaging and user-friendly interface for improved usability.
Intuitive Search and Filters
Users need an advanced search function to quickly find relevant topics or courses.
User Flows & Journey Maps
Mapping the end-to-end journey showed where admins lost momentum. I redesigned flows so users can Discover → Evaluate → Assign without leaving the library.
Success Metrics
Lesson assignments per admin
Time-to-first assignment for new admins
Content views per session for learners
Search success rate (zero-result searches)
Ideation
Through sketching and wireframing, I conceptualized various designs that prioritize ease of navigation, making it easier for users to browse and find content. These concepts were refined into high-fidelity screens for testing and validation, ensuring an improved and user-friendly navigation experience within the platform.
User Testing
I conducted user testing with administrators and employees to ensure the design's effectiveness and usability. Valuable feedback from these sessions drove iterative improvements to the Content Library. Notably, an improved filter and sort dropdown was added, to better meet the users' needs and expectations.
Final Design
The final design for the content library focused on three key principles: simplicity, discoverability, and efficiency. I aimed to present content in a clean and straightforward manner, eliminating clutter and providing clear information hierarchy. My focus on discoverability included search functionalities, categorization, and clear content card designs.
